What to Expect When You Visit
We believe worship services must be focused on God first before we can gain any personal spiritual benefit.
Worship and Teaching at Williamsburg Church of Christ
We study God's Word together each Sunday. We do this through prepared lessons, singing, prayer and by taking communion during the worship.
Singing at Williamsburg Church of Christ
We love to singI We have chosen as a part of our faith tradition to sing a cappella, that is without musical instruments. This may be new to you, as not all churches sing this way. Please feel free to join in every song with us. The words will be on the overhead screen in front.
Lord's Supper at Williamsburg Church of Christ
We observe communion each Sunday. Some churches call this The Lord's Supper, Holy Communion, Eucharist, or The Sacrament. Someone from the church will go to the front and serve as the attendant by leading devotional thoughts prior to our taking the supper. When you enter the sanctuary you will be offered a communion cup set with bread and juice; the bread, represents Jesus’ body, and the grape juice, represents Christ’s blood. We all join together and share these as the family of God. It is somewhat analogous to shared family time during an evening meal. A prayer will be said by the attendant before the bread is taken and again before the juice is taken. You should feel free to partake of the bread and the cup as you choose. This is an open time for both reflection and celebration. We reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins and celebrate that He lives in us, and will return one day to claim us as His.
Giving at Williamsburg Church of Christ
We take up a collection each Sunday. We believe that our ability to give is a blessing from God. Because we believe this about giving, you can participate with us, but only if you wish.
If you are visiting please do not feel pressured to give.
Prayer at Williamsburg Church of Christ
At times during the service, someone will go to the microphone and offer a prayer to God. This is our collective prayer to God as a church. You are welcome to quietly join the prayer, or silently say one of your own. The important thing is the meditation on God, and thanks to Him for His blessings.
Class Time at Williamsburg Church of Christ
When we are dismissed for classes, your kids will already be meeting with their small groups. So grab a cup of coffee and meet a few new friends! You may pick up a list of our quarterly classes on the center table in the foyer. Choose a class that is appropriate for your stage in life or one of our general classes. Either way, we are all studying the same theme.
